Golfing Holidays Near The Moray Firth

The Moray Firth – A Golfing Holiday Mecca?

Holidays for Golfers

One thing Scotland isn’t short of is golf courses.  Although we had a guest last year who claimed there’s no such thing as “enough” golf courses.  He was out every day at the crack of dawn heading for his next 18 holes.

That’s the lovely thing about booking your golf holiday in Moray and especially here at Thornhall Chalet.  With an enviable selection of links and parkland courses within easy drive in almost every direction there’s an ideal golf experience nearby, no matter what your handicap.

Just along the coast a few miles to the west you have the high profile challenges of Nairn and Castle Stuart.  You might have seen these marvellous courses on the TV before?  Nairn has hosted the Walker Cup and Castle Stuart was the venue for the Scottish Open for the past three years.  So if you’re looking for pedigree, it doesn’t get a lot better than that.

Carry on to the west and you’ll find Inverness.  Or you can swing north over the Kessock bridge and head up to Royal Dornoch or the incredibly tight links built on the peninsula at Fortrose & Rosemarkie (just across the water from Fort George).  If you keep your eyes peeled you can even see dolphins playing in the waters here!

Nearby we have Forres golf club.  Head east for delightful links courses at Hopeman, Lossiemouth or Spey Bay.

Head south and inland for some Speyside magic.  The course at Grantown on Spey will test your skills.  There’s a smashing little 9 hole course at Nethy Bridge and if you continue along to Boat of Garten you can tee off to the sound of the steam engines on the Strathspey Railway – take your plus fours and step back in time to the era of steam and mashie niblicks!

The best part is that all of this is within easy travelling time from Thornhall Chalet holiday cottage.  It’s the ideal place to base yourself for your next golfing trip in Scotland.  Self catering lets you suit yourself and enjoy the golf by day, with the comfort and seclusion of your holiday cottage to come home to every evening.
